Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero Bans Trade of Copper Wires Within Nairobi City

Nairobi Kenya: Evans Kidero spoke during a passing out parade of county constables in Dagoretti on Wednesday. He said that vandals have affected provision of electricity due to the theft.”Nairobi is becoming a dark city because we repair and replace electricity transmission wires which are made of copper and are vandalized. Kenya does not produce any copper yet as a country we are exporting copper,” he noted.

“From today we are banning the trade and that will ensure transmission of electricity is not interrupted.”

He also said that county authorities were working on ensuring that all scrap metal dealers are registered and their sources vetted.

“This will help them to account of the source of their scrap metals,” he added.

The Governor assured city residents of better services from the county workers saying under the devolved services, the county government had better capacities.

He noted that with better services, the county will attract more investors who will consequently create employment to the City residents.

“The county will improve its services and more so the security among the residents to ensure they carry out their business without fear.”

“We are putting 41 CCTV cameras in the crime prone areas within the Central Business District as a way to fight the vice.”

He revealed that the county government will increase its inspectors to work with the Kenya Police in providing security.

During the ceremony, 178 County constables graduated and will be dispatched to various security areas within the city. (Capital Business).
