Mr Chumo, who until his appointment was the
company’s chief manager, human resources and administration, replaces
Joseph Njoroge.
Mr Njoroge was sworn in as principal secretary in the ministry of Energy and Petroleum Thursday.
The search for a new chief executive is yet to start.
Mr Chumo is expected to serve in an acting capacity until the board completes recruitment of a new managing director.
The announcement came shortly after KenGen wrote
to the chief executive of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) saying
that the company’s board of directors had appointed Simon Ngure in an acting position to replace outgoing chief executive Eddy Njoroge.
Mr Njoroge opted to resign from the helm of KenGen
ahead of the expiry of his current term that was expected to come to an
end in March 2015.
Announcing his exit plan at a KenGen annual
general meeting held in November last year, Mr Njoroge cited
“satisfaction” with the power generator’s performance as his motivation
to step down and allow for injection of fresh leadership into the
company.
Together with the Kenya Pipeline Company, Kenya
Power and KenGen have seen their top bosses exit this year sending the
companies’ boards back to the drawing board in search for new leadership
