Nairobi: A property owned by the late Internal security minister George
Saitoti is among those targeted for demolition as Kajiado County
enforces spatial planning in Kitengela town.
Kitengela Plaza, which hosts a number of businesses, is said to be erected on the Nairobi-Namanga road reserve.
Kajiado governor David Nkedianye said the owners
of properties built on road reserves would be served with notices to
vacate the areas, giving way to social amenities like sewer lines, road
reserves, feeder roads and parking areas.
“Our engineers, surveyors and physical planners
are already carrying out the feasibility studies to mark the affected
areas before we give the land owners and developers a notice to move,”
he said.
The crackdown also affects Ngong, Kiserian, Ongata
Rongai, Isinya, Kajiado, Namanga and Loitokitok and will see hawkers
moved to market areas.
The governor blamed poor planning for traffic snarl ups along Namanga Road.
“All the feeder roads to Kitengela town have to be opened up,’’ he said.
